The simple definition of procrastination is “putting off that which should be done now.” If you research online in any of the major dictionaries or search engines, such as Google, this is the simple definition you will discover.
Although procrastination can be defined in simple terms, it is not a simple problem. It can be caused by many different things and learning to overcome procrastination can be a very difficult thing to do, especially because procrastination becomes habitual. The decision to put something off can be made very quickly and repeatedly.
A more in-depth definition of procrastination, offered by StopProcrastinating.net, proposes that procrastination is not usually a problem of time management or laziness. Rather it is the “chronic habit of illegitimately justifying to oneself that a task does not, should not, or cannot be started now.”
Students are notorious for procrastinating. There is even a special form of procrastination assigned to students, called “Student Syndrome.” (See Answers.com for the definition of student syndrome.)
Student Syndrome can be defined as “someone who will not start to apply themselves fully to a task until the last possible moment.”
